BCARS Meeting Minutes - May 2nd, 2024

A meeting of the Bedford County Amateur Radio Society was called to order at 1930 hours at Bedford American Legion by President Zachary Pepple and a quorum was declared.

In attendance were (12):

John KB3DFZ, Lance H, Gary KC3HKZ, Kenny WB3JEK, Bernie W3DRW, Ellis KC3WMI, Zach KC3KHK, Kip N2XRE, Steve KE3ZT, Ed KC3NAF, Jay K3SCM, Steve KC3DNB

Meeting Minutes were presented by John KB3DFZ. Motion to approve was made by WB3JEK and seconded by KC3HKZ.

Treasurer’s Report was presented by Steve KC3DNB. Steve discussed various checks received, checks issued and cash deposits. The ending balances are:

A motion to approve was made by W3DRW, seconded by K3SCM. Motion carried. The full treasurer’s report is on file.

Old Business

Bloody Run Float Festival will be held May 18th in Everett. Plans are to meet at Burger King at 8AM the morning, assign locations, and travel from there. The event starts at 9AM. It then ends at the Everett ballfields (by the Igloo), estimated to wrap up around noon.

Workshop and VE Session is May 11th. KB3DFZ reminded members of the VE and workshop on May 11th, with 2 test takers registered.

Zach, KC3KHK reports on the recognition award. Hunt’s promotions no longer does plaques. Zach went over some alternative options for a getting a mount made locally and an engraved plaque done online.

New Business

KB3DFZ reported that he will be out of tone for the June meeting and unable to attend remotely. KC3KHK offered to perform secretarial duties at the June meeting.

Field Day was discussed. This is the weekend of June 22nd, with further planning to be finalized at June’s meeting. We will also hold VE session on June 22nd. Details for Field Day location is on the BCARS website.

No July meeting There will be no meeting July 4th due to the holiday. BCARS will also hold a business meeting at Field Day in lieu of the July 4th meeting.

PEMA and Red Cross Events will be held on May 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. A practice drill will be held on May 11th. On the 20th through the 23rd, PEMA is conducting a simulated emergency simulating shelter openings across certain parts of the state. Coordination of simulated shelter openings will be performed using Winlink. It is unknown at this time if Bedford County EMA is participating. Further details will be made available via email.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2027 hours.
